Abstract
Methanol-soluble fraction of hot-water extracts from Hovenia dulcis Thunb leaves showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. An antimicrobial-active compound, isolated and purified, was structurally elucidated as a 3(Z)-dodecenedioic acid through NMR and GC-MS analyses. This compound inhibited growths of S. aureus and E. coli at 500 §¶, when deiemined using the paper disc method.
